Yes, on a firm Google Workspace or Gemini Enterprise account, and never on a personal Gmail account. Gemini comes with Google Workspace Business plans, which list at $7, $14 and $22 per user per month on an annual plan in the US. Gemini Enterprise Business starts at $21 per seat per month and Standard at $30. On work accounts Google says your chats and files are not reviewed by humans or used to train its models without permission.
A personal account is different: Google's Gemini Apps privacy hub says conversations can be read by human reviewers and used to improve its AI unless you turn Keep Activity off. Gemini is strongest inside Gmail, Docs and Drive. If the job is reading one whole matter file and getting answers that name the exact document, CaseClerk does that one job at a flat, published $99, $249 or $499 a month for the account.
Move everyone to firm accounts
Confirm every lawyer and assistant uses a firm Workspace login for Gemini. Block personal accounts on firm devices where you can, and write it into the firm AI policy.
Clean up Drive sharing
Run a sharing audit. Remove 'anyone in the domain' links on matter folders and give each matter its own group, so Gemini can only read what a user is cleared to read.
Pick the tier by the job
Business Standard covers drafting and email for most small firms. Price Gemini Enterprise only if you need agents, connectors to other systems, or data residency.
Test the matter-reading job separately
Take one closed matter, load the whole file into a tool built for reading it, and compare the answers with what Gemini gives you from Drive. Decide on evidence, not a demo.

Firms already on Google Workspace
If the firm runs on Gmail and Drive, Business Standard is the cheapest way to put AI where the work already happens. Gemini is included in the seat, so the real cost is the plan you are probably already paying for.
Firms that want agents and connectors
Gemini Enterprise adds agents, a no-code agent designer and connectors to tools like Microsoft 365, and Google now packages a legal edition with iManage, NetDocuments and Thomson Reuters connectors. That is priced per seat and aimed at larger firms.
Litigators who live in the file
If the daily work is finding what a witness said across 40 depositions or which exhibit a date came from, a general assistant working over Drive is the wrong shape. A matter-scoped reader answers faster and shows the source.
Solo lawyers on personal Gmail
Do not put client files into Gemini on a personal account. Move to Workspace first, or use a tool whose terms were written for client documents.
For a firm that will put client information into it, the realistic starting point is Google Workspace. US list prices on an annual plan are $7 per user per month for Business Starter, $14 for Business Standard and $22 for Business Plus, with flexible monthly billing about 20% higher. Starter gets Gemini in Gmail and basic access to the Gemini app. Standard and Plus add Gemini in Docs, Meet and the rest of the suite plus expanded access to Gemini Notebook.
Gemini Enterprise is a separate purchase. Google's page lists the Business edition from $21 per seat per month for up to 300 seats with a 30 day trial, and Standard and Plus from $30 per seat for firms that need stronger IT controls and data residency. A pay as you go edition with no seat fee is offered to organizations with 20 or more seats. For a five lawyer firm, Workspace Business Standard comes to about $70 a month, and adding Gemini Enterprise Business for the same five people adds about $105.
It depends on the account. On a firm Workspace or Gemini Enterprise account, Google's privacy hub says chats and uploaded files are not reviewed by human reviewers or used to train generative AI models outside your domain without permission. That is the setup a firm can defend under the duty of confidentiality in ABA Model Rule 1.6.
On a personal account, the Gemini Apps privacy hub says Google uses activity to improve its AI with the help of human reviewers, and saved chats stay in Gemini Apps Activity until deleted. Uploading a client file there is the same problem the Heppner ruling in the Southern District of New York flagged for consumer Claude: material shared with a consumer AI service may not stay privileged. Use firm accounts only.
Google Cloud launched Gemini Enterprise for Legal on August 25, 2026, in preview, with Cleary Gottlieb, Freshfields, Weil and Williams & Connolly named as launch firms. It packages legal skills and agents (brief drafting, citation checking, contract work) with connectors to iManage, NetDocuments, Everlaw, RelativityOne, Docusign and Thomson Reuters. Google says base models are never trained on customer data. No price has been published, and the launch list tells you who it is built for: large firms with an IT team.
The three are closer than the marketing suggests. All three sell business plans that keep client content out of model training, all three price per seat, and all three can still invent a citation. The practical tiebreaker is where your firm already works: Gemini if you run on Google Workspace, Copilot if you run on Microsoft 365, and ChatGPT or Claude if lawyers want a standalone assistant. None of them is built to hold one matter's documents as a closed set and cite the page an answer came from, which is the job CaseClerk does.
